What I'm Listening To...

Double Take: I Love You

William Hubbard's I Love You continues to be a staple in nearly every church's worship service. The lyrics of this song proclaims the declaration of our love for our Lord. I Love You was first recorded by Edwin Hawkins Music & Arts Seminar Mass Choir on their 1985 album, Have Mercy (Birthright Records), and then later by Walt Whitman and The Soul Children of Chicago on their 1996 release, Growing Up (CGI Records). I figured there wasn't much that really needed to be said about either version of the song, both do a great job of letting the lyrics stand out without the instruments and vocals overpowering it. If you agree or disagree, or just have any other comments about the song, as always let your voice be heard by leaving your comments below.

Did a search on this song and found this site. I began using this song as part of our worship back when I first heard it in the mid-80s, when it was released. Recently, at my current church, I used it for the first time in a looong time. It has stood the test of time! Your orginal comments a true. The song is awesome without overdoing the instruments & vocals and allows the people to WORSHIP THE LORD!

"Angels Will Be Singing"-1984, "Have Mercy"-1985, "That Name"-1988, and "Give Us Peace" -1987 are difficult Lps/Cds to find from Edwin Hawkins Music and Arts Seminar Mass Choir. Thanks for posting at least one song from "Have Mercy", but it's a tease to a great lp.

THis is a true classic it takes me back to being a teenager singing in the Adult Choir Such a beautiful song. The soul children's version is beautiful also, I have that one. But this one the original 1 just takes me back to the 80's singing for the Lord. I Can see us singing now :) Thank U and Good bless U For the work U do W/the music. PS. I loved listening to this song around 1988/89 when I was a student at the University of the West Indies in Trinidad. I was in Campus Crusade For Christ and I also think this song was sung in prayer meetings and worship times at the church I attended, New Testament Church of God, Pointe-a-Pierre, Trinidad, West Indies.
