What I'm Listening To...

Old School Throwback: GMWA Youth Mass Choir

Praise Him -1990
(Click on album to listen)

Win The World For Christ was the debut album of GMWA Youth Mass Choir on the Sweet Rain label and is one of my favorite albums from them. As you all know GMWA (Gospel Music Workshop of America) has introduced us to so many great gospel talents that later became well known to the world. This album was no different, it introduced us to Kim Burrell singing lead on "Praise Him". My favorite part of the song is when it breaks to the vamp and the organ just rips it... a GMWA Youth Mass Choir classic.

I found about this album almost 10 years ago (those who know me, know how late I can be at times :) ) and someone was very kind to provide me with a cassette tape copy that I wore out to the point to where it wouldn't play anymore.

So many good songs on there like Daryl Coley's solo on "Psalm 27" and many others. I was lucky to have found this and purchase the lp, so I could listen to this again. So what do you all think of this song and hearing an old Kim Burrelll song?

WOW!!!!! I've never heard this song before but Kim was killing it. You can tell she was young then but she did the thing. If you got anymore Kim Burrell songs post em up plz.

Hi and welcome Marquis. I think I may have some other songs where she was a guest soloist on, I'll check and see.

Hello,

I have been looking for gmwa "lift the savior up" and "Win the world for Christ" albums. I lost my tapes years ago. Where can I purchase these two?

I am quite sure that it is NOT easy to run this site. It is very well organized and detailed. Not to mention the passion and time put into communicating your love for Gospel music--CLASSICS--to those of us who feared it would be lost forever. I sometimes wish that there was a Museum of Gospel Music History!

My daughters sang on the "Win the World for Christ" recording. Could you play Psalms 27, so they can hear it again? It was their favorite song on the recording. I am having a difficult time finding the song.

I am a big fan of GMWA Youth Mass Choir. I was a member in 1989-1998. I would love to hear so more songs from "Win the World for Christ". I sang on that album at 11 years old.I was so excited when I got ready to perform in New Orleans.I still remember gathering on the stage with about 300 other kids to sing as Rev. Cleveland watched in the audience. That is such a great memory. Please tell me where to purchase the cassette.
